Obituary

William John Grant, age 84, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on August 7, 2026, at Riddle Hospital. Formerly of Richmond and Springfield VA, John lived in the Media area since 1985, most recently as a resident of Granite Farms Estates.

Born in Richmond VA, John was the son of the late William Oliver and Sara (nee Hausenbauer) Grant. He spent his formative years in Fairfax, VA, graduating from McLean High School. He continued his studies at American University, where he focused on business and accounting, earning his bachelor’s degree.

John married Diana (nee Weisbrod) in 1965, and they spent sixty-one blessed years together. Right after they married, John volunteered to serve his country. He joined the US Coast Guard and was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant. He was stationed in Miami, FL and in Wilmington, NC, where he went on extended deep-sea cruises. After his service, he began his professional career as a CPA and controller for companies in Texas, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. His work eventually led the Grant family to settle in the Media area of Delaware County, PA. He was an active member and a deacon at Media Presbyterian Church, a volunteer at the Riddle Hospital Thrift Shop, and volunteered his time to help people process their tax returns. As a resident of Granite Farms Estates, John volunteered with the library, the chorus, and as an A.V. Assistant.

John was a kind man of good humor and bad puns. He had a soft spot for animals and little kids and quacked like Donald Duck at them both. He was a proud father of two girls, Carly and Vicki. He took the family camping up and down the East Coast, helped with Girl Scout paper drives, and performed many hair perms at the kitchen sink. He had intuitive fix-it skills with cars, burst water pipes, home DIY projects, and built three dollhouses for his girls. He was later blessed with two grandsons who made him proud. John had an eclectic taste in reading.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Diana Weisbrod Grant; daughters Carly Grant of Philadelphia, PA and Victoria Tuz (Theodore) of Chalfont, PA; two grandsons, Jeremy and Cody Tuz; and his brother, Charles J. Grant of Cape Coral, FL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Coast Guard Foundation.

The Coast Guard will honor John with a burial at sea scheduled for a later date.
