Obituary

Virginia Reid Dixon, "Ginger", age 71, of Milford, DE, passed away on January 6, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her beloved family and friends.

The daughter of the late Lincoln H. Reid and Virginia R. (née Hauft) Robbins, Ginger spent her formative years in Wantagh, NY where she graduated from General Douglas MacArthur High School in 1971. She married the love of her life, Robert Dixon, "Bob", in 1979 and they shared 45 years of marriage. Together, they raised two daughters, Lauren and Kaylen, "Katie", and resided in various parts of the country, including Plano, TX. For nearly twenty years, they called Pittsburgh home. In that time, she worked as an administrator for LaRoche University and developed her love for the Steelers and Penn State football. With their daughters in college, Ginger and Bob then moved to Gold Canyon, AZ for 14 years where Ginger continued working in education at Queen Creek High School.

They ultimately settled in Milford, DE, a quick ride to the Delaware beaches where Ginger spent many days with her toes in the sand, always hunting for sea glass. She loved reading, watching movies, traveling and dining out at restaurants. Purple was more than a favorite color; it was a shared passion with her mom, and they took joy in gathering keepsakes that reflected their shared admiration for the color. Family and friends were everything to Ginger. She loved organizing get-togethers with girlfriends and was happiest surrounded by her family, her grandchildren, close friends, and her dogs.

Ginger is survived by her husband, Robert Michael Dixon; daughters Lauren Lee Dixon of Odenton, MD and Kaylen Dixon Atkinson of Media, PA; son-in-law Edward James Atkinson; and three grandchildren Alexis Rose Dixon, Fox Edward Atkinson, and Armie Joseph Atkinson. She is also survived by her sister Lauren Hauft Malone of Cambridge, MD.

The family will not be holding services. Separate celebration of life gatherings with family and friends scattered across the country will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Brandywine Valley SPCA (of Georgetown, DE) would be greatly appreciated.
