Dr. Thamara Yasmine Hewavitharana, age 52, a resident of Chadds Ford, PA, passed away at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania on February 18, 2024.

Born and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Thamara came to the United States in 1998 to study as an undergraduate at Hood College. She, later, undertook doctoral training in Biochemistry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine under the mentorship of Dr. Donald Gill and graduated with a PhD in 2007.  Thamara was a Postdoctoral Associate with Thomas Jefferson Medical College and worked as a Research Scientist with WuXi AppTec in Philadelphia.

A happy and warm person, Thamara enjoyed living a quiet, single life in Chadds Ford.  She was dedicated to her work in cutting-edge immunotherapy research and patient treatment in a dynamic, high-tech research and development company in Philadelphia.  In her free time, she was an avid tennis enthusiast.

Services were held at 11 am on March 5th at Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home in Media, PA where family and friends shared memories and reflections of Thamara's life. Burial followed at Media Cemetery.
