Suzanne
Mcmahon
d. Feb 18, 2024
Suzanne (nee Bouchard) McMahon, 76 of Prospect Park, PA passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, PA. Sue was born in Queens, NY and grew up in Elmont, NY. She graduated from Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, NY and later earned an associate degree from Delaware County Community College in Media, PA.
Entering the workforce right out of high school, Sue had several different jobs over the years including a short stint as a New York City cab driver. She had some good stories from that job! Sue worked as a legal secretary for many years both in New York City and Philadelphia, but it was the final 10 years of her career working as the Administrative Assistant at First Church Media that brought her the most joy. She loved welcoming guests and new members of the church, helping community members in need, and just providing a comfortable space for anyone to share their troubles. She enjoyed having people stop in daily on their walks around town just to say hi, making sure she always had treats on hand for the church's four legged friends. Sue enjoyed watching the church grow and evolve over the years and was eager to aid all missions of the church however she could. She loved watching the church's Food Bank grow over the years and assisting with any administrative tasks needed.
In addition to working in the church office, for many years Sue supervised community service groups coming to clean the church on Saturdays. She saw those Saturdays as another outreach opportunity to share all the wonderful things First Church Media does for the community, but most importantly she wanted to provide a safe, compassionate, and judgment free environment for those completing their community service. She would listen to their stories and often share some of her own from her days living in New York City. She wanted to remind them nobody is perfect, and it is ok to make mistakes.
Sue is survived by her daughter Caitlin McMahon of Prospect Park, PA, her brother Richard Bouchard of Elmont, NY, and a large extended family of aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her former spouse Joseph Patrick McMahon, her brother Thomas Bouchard, and her parents Harvey and Eileen Bouchard.
A memorial service will be held on March 16, 2024 at 11:30am at First Church Media 350 W. State St. Media, PA 19063. Visiting hours will be 10:30 – 11:15am. Luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to First Church Media's Missions Scholarship Fund. Sue was passionate about making mission work accessible to all and not letting the cost of a trip impede someone's ability to serve others. https://www.firstchurchmedia.org/give-to-first-church
