Obituary

Stephanie Cavell Gauzza, age 72, a longtime resident of the Media and Nether Providence area, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on November 19, 2022.

She was the beloved wife of Glenn Gauzza, with whom she shared 47 years of marriage; the devoted mother of Alexandra C. Gauzza (David Gale) of Media and Adam C. Gauzza of Brooklyn, NY; the adoring grandmother of Sibyl Caroline Gale; and loyal sister to Donna M. Cavell of Columbus, OH.

Born in Cleveland, OH to the late Donald F. and Sibyl M. Cavell, Stephanie spent her childhood years in Cleveland before moving to Franklin, PA at the age of 14.  She graduated from Venango Christian High School in 1968 and obtained her Bachelor of Science from Penn State University in 1972.

Stephanie was an accomplished speech and language pathologist and worked with school age children for nearly 35 years. She began her career with the Delaware County Intermediate Unit and continued to serve the community in the Rose Tree Media School District until her retirement in 2007. She later returned to the classroom as a consultant to work with hearing-impaired students at Strath Haven Middle School. Her work and all of the people she was fortunate enough to meet along the way brought her a great deal of joy.

As an ardent supporter of her children and their varied interests, Stephanie was always present in the stands cheering or in the audience clapping. In the summer, she committed countless Saturday mornings to scoring swim meets for the Broomall's Lake CC swim team. She never missed any of Alex's sporting events no matter rain or shine or hot and steamy indoor pool. She attended every one of Adam's performances and concerts from elementary school through college.

Throughout her life, Stephanie's warmth pulled many into her circle. She treasured her friendships and found many ways to enjoy time with the people who were important to her. She became an avid Mah Jong player, and she always looked forward to gatherings with her book club and supper club.

Stephanie and Glenn could often be found taking walks through Media together. In recent years, they started hosting regular Sunday dinners at their home. Stephanie cherished the time she spent with her family most of all.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Stephanie's life on Saturday, December 17th at Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home.  There will be a visitation from 10-11 am followed by a service at 11 am.
