Sharon Kathleen
Hammond
Jul 15, 1938 — Aug 23, 2024
Sharon Kathleen Hammond (nee Turley), a longtime resident of Media, PA, died peacefully at home on August 23, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Scotia, CA to the late Patricia M. and Frank C. Turley, Sharon spent her formative years in Chester, PA where she graduated from Chester High School. She and John D. Hammond, her beloved husband of 61 years, settled in Media where they've resided ever since.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Sharon loved building a family and home life. She was a terrific cook and gardener and was well-known by many for making the best apple pie in Media. Over the years she became a true Philly sports fan and scheduled her day around game times. But her life centered on her family. She loved traveling the U.S. with her husband John and, together, they made many cross country trips and regularly travelled the East Coast often times landing in their favorite spot, Hilton Head, SC. Their weekends were spent on the Upper Chesapeake with their dear friends, George & Nancy, enjoying the quiet life on the water. Whatever sports her children were involved in, Sharon was there volunteering to run the snack bar, coach the team, or help anywhere she was needed. The years she spent with the Rose Tree Colts, Media Youth Center (Boys' Club), and Media Little League gave her, both, joy and some of her closest, lifelong friends. But her happiest role came as Mimi to Taryn and Brady. She adored her grandchildren and was lucky to be a part of their daily lives. She was their biggest fan and you could be sure to find her on the sidelines of all their soccer and hockey games, something that filled her with so much pride and pleasure.
Sharon was preceded in death by her sister Callan Babe, and brothers Bruce and Shaun Turley.
She is survived by her husband John; children Cory Hammond (Maggie) and Kara Hammond (John Tagtmeir) both of Media, PA; and grandchildren Brady Hammond and Taryn Tagtmeir. Sharon is also survived by her sister Lynn T. Webb (Jack) of Upper Chichester and nieces Dawn Babe of West Chester and Kelly Willette (Richard) of Ledyard, CT.
Sharon's funeral will be on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home, 15 E. Fourth St, Media. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 am followed by a service at 11 am.
If you prefer, in lieu of flowers, the family asks for a donation in Sharon's memory to the Rose Tree Colts:
