Ruth
Harold
Oct 5, 1926 — Jun 27, 2025
Ruth (Moore) Harold was born on October 5, 1926 and grew up on Newkirk Street in the Brewerytown section of Philadelphia. She was one of four children born to Harry and Mary (Lentz) Moore. Along with her brother Harry, and sisters Mary and Dorothy, she attended St. Ludwig's Parish Catholic Elementary school, which she fondly recalled walking to every day, whether it was sunny, raining, or snowing. Ruth went on to attend John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School, and graduated in 1944. After graduation, Ruth worked as a secretary in a Center City insurance agency. She met Jim Harold and they were married in 1965. They moved to Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, where they lived together until Jim's death in 2012. They had a true partnership, built on a beautiful friendship, deep love and sincere respect. Two daughters would complete their family. Suzanne was born in 1968, followed by Hilary in 1970. Ruth was the definition of a devoted mother to her girls. She shared her love of learning with them, and passed down her fierce curiosity about the world. Her compassion and capacity for care was limitless. She was a devout Catholic throughout her life and attended St. Charles Borromeo Church in Drexel Hill. Ruth cherished her faith and lived her life according to the values and teachings of Christ.
When Ruth became a grandmother, she was known as "Gram" to Stephanie, Eddie, and Nicholas, and then to her great-grandchildren, Jordan and Sophia. She was also "Gram" to their friends, and, as a result, Ruth created a community of honorary grandchildren across two states. They learned what Ruth's friends, her children's friends, her many beloved nieces and nephews, and her large extended family have always known. The door to Ruth's home, and heart, was always open. Ruth's legacy is the example of her life. It is simply unconditional love.
Ruth is pre-deceased by her sister Mary (Moore) Powers, brother Harry Moore and grandson Dylan Peiffer.
Survivors: Sister Dorothy (Moore) Rooney, Daughters Suzanne Harold & Hilary Harold Peiffer, Granddaughter Stephanie Nania, grandsons Edwin Peiffer Jr., and Nicholas Peiffer, great-grandchildren Jordan Singleton and Sophia Houston, as well as many nieces and nephews.
