Ruth Louise Hall, Ph.D.

June 7, 1948 - June 22, 2023

Ruth was born on June 7, 1948 to Curtis and Phyllis Hall in Painesville, Ohio.  A natural athlete and scholar, Ruth excelled and eventually went to Heidelberg University and then Boston University where she earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and later added another Masters degree in Sports Psychology from Temple University.

Ruth moved to Philadelphia and held administrative positions at CATCH before joining the University of Pennsylvania Counseling Center as a staff psychologist. Her career later took her to the College of New Jersey (formerly Trenton State University) where she earned tenure in the Psychology Department. Ruth was the recipient of many professional and leadership awards and honors. She also authored and co-authored several articles, chapters and books. Moreover, Ruth was a mentor to many people.

To her family and friends, Ruth was known for her sense of humor, generosity and sincerity. She was always there for friends and family. She loved to travel and was known for her parties and cookouts. Ruth enjoyed biking, walking, swimming and racket ball. She appreciated art, photography in particular. Ruth was a musician who enjoyed playing in the band 'Ruthless' where she played guitar and performed in various Philadelphia area venues.

She is survived by her sister Barbara Sublett, a niece, nephews and cousins. She is survived by friends Cheryl Bowers and Jo-Ann Zoll, and many other friends and colleagues. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to the American Diabetes Association ( diabetes.org ), the Kidney Foundation of America ( kidneyfund.org ) and Providence Animal Center ( providenceac.org ).
