In Loving Memory of Robert James McGrody, Jr

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert McGrody, Jr (Jim), a beloved brother, uncle and friend, who left us on November 3, 2023. Jim was born on June 4, 1948 in Philadelphia to his parents, Robert and Isabel McGrody, and he brought joy and warmth into the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Jim was a man of many talents and passions, and his life's journey was a testament to his dedication and love for family, service, and the arts. After graduating from Villanova University with a Bachelor's degree, Jim chose to serve his country as a dedicated Navy officer during the Vietnam War, stationed in Okinawa. He was admired by all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Aside from his military service, Jim had a deep love for music. He and his partners Al and Michael opened a music rehearsal studio in Philadelphia which nurtured the dreams and aspirations of countless aspiring artists, as well as hosting many well-known artists for 23 years. 25,000 bands rehearsed at the studio including Patti LaBelle, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, Bucky Pizzarelli, the Boyz to Men, Mickey Dolenz of the Monkeys, The 4 Seasons, The Roots, Sister Sledge, Jill Scott, the Pointer Sisters, Mitch Mitchel and Noel Redding of the Jimi Hendrix band (the band who played at Woodstock) and others. He also was a videographer and film-maker for musicians and local creatives. His studio became a creative haven for many, and he was known for his patience, encouragement, and unwavering support of budding musicians.

In addition to his professional achievements, Jim had a wry sense of humor and the ability to make everyone around him feel better. He was also incredibly generous to friends and people in need. He had a keen sense of justice and always fought for the underdog.

Jim is survived by his loving family, Sisters Caryl and Susan, nieces and nephews Randy, Liz, Anne, Danny, Kate, Jack, Andrew and Morgan, and a multitude of friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.

In his honor, a memorial service will be held on November 18th –10 am viewing, 11 am service at Rigby Harting and Hagan Funeral Home (15 E 4th Street, Media, PA, 19063) where friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of Robert James McGrody, Jr. We will remember him not only for his accomplishments but also for the love, kindness, and laughter he shared with us all.

Jim's light will forever shine in our hearts, and he will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace.
