Raymond
Atkins
d. Apr 8, 2020
On Wednesday, April 8, 2020, Raymond Atkins, loving husband and father of two children went to be with the Lord at the age of 73.
Ray was born on June 3, 1947 in Chester, Pennsylvania to Norman and Carrie Atkins. After graduating high school, he served in the U.S. Army for two years. Once home, Ray sought out additional education to achieve his Cosmetology License. After only one year as a salon employee, he opened Jason's of Sproul, fulfilling his dream of owning his own salon. He successfully ran it until 1993 when he married another hairstylist, Jennifer Lambeck. For the past 28 years, the two worked together to build two well-loved salons; first, Salon Nouveau of Wayne and later, Salon 555 of Berwyn.
Ray had the spirit of an entrepreneur. As a boy, he earned money by selling doughnuts, delivering newspapers, shining shoes, and doing other odd jobs in order to contribute to his family's household needs. Ray was also an artist. He mastered the craft of hair design, but also experimented with a unique, beading technique in which he handcrafted expressive, ornamented sculptures. When Ray wasn't at the salon, he often worked on various home renovation projects. With any additional free time, he enjoyed cooking, flea marketing, and worshiping the Lord.
Ray is survived by his wife Jennifer, his two children Jason and Alexandrea, his grandson Ethan, his sister Dorothea, his two brothers Norman and William (deceased), his aunt Barbara, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ray liked to help local organizations in need. En lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Luke Lutheran church, Devon, Pa. From there local organizations in need are given to regularly.
A celebration of Ray's life service will be held as soon as conditions allow.
