Ray G.
Cross
Jul 3, 1941 — Aug 7, 2024
Ray G. Cross age 83 of Media, PA, formerly of Farmington Hills, MI and Bedford, OH, died on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Monticello House, Riddle Village. Ray was born July 3, 1941 to the late Esther (Tresnicka) and Carroll Cross. Beloved husband of 58 years to Flo (McClelland) Cross; father of Erin Cross (Amy Hillier) and Heather Cross (Rick Smith); grandfather of Declan Smith; uncle to David McClelland, Rob McClelland, Graham McClelland, Megan Kaplar, and Lauren Mendoza; dog dad to ten pups; and honorary Papa Ray to many.
Ray was an air traffic controller in the US Air Force, attended the Air Force Academy, and graduated from Kent State University. He had a successful career in banking automation, consulting, and systems from keypunch cards to giant server rooms to cloud services. His daughters preferred the days of huge dot matrix printouts since they could draw on them, or even better, he could draw on them. Ray was a gifted artist who ensured his kids' fieldtrip lunch bags were always personalized with drawings of Winnie the Pooh, ants, cars (one of his biggest loves!), or something else out of his imagination. He was also a sports fan, adopting the teams of the towns in which he lived, while never forgetting his hometown of Cleveland.
In both OH and MI, Ray was a devoted church elder, Stephen Minister and Leader, and unofficial church hugger. He never met ice cream he didn't find worth eating. He was well known for his love of family and sense of humor. He loved being Heather and Erin's dad and adored having Flo as his wife. Most reliably however, you could count on Ray's sly sense of humor. Even in his last days, he was kidding with those around him, ribbing his family, and bringing smiles to people's faces.
A military interment will take place on Friday, September 13th, 1:00 pm at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.
