Obituary

Peter Francis Madden Jr., known affectionately as Pete to his friends and family, passed away on April 13, 2025, at the age of 77.  Born at Bryn Mawr Hospital on February 29, 1948, to his parents Peter and Nellie Madden.

Peter was educated in both the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Lower Merion School District, laying the foundation for a life guided by both faith and community.

He was drafted into the United States Army Special Forces during the Vietnam Era, serving his country with quiet strength and dedication. During his service in Germany, Peter was severely injured, suffering damage to his heart, lungs, and liver. He was transferred to Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where he received extensive care and began his long recovery. Despite the challenges, Peter's resilience and determination remained unwavering.

After his time in the Army, Peter founded Madden's Tree Service, a business he ran with pride for many years. Peter later joined the Marple Newtown School Police Department, where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He was a respected and steady presence within the school community. He concluded his career in the Westtown School Security Department, continuing his lifelong commitment to safety, service, and care for others.

Peter was married to his beloved wife, Cynthia (Dunbar) Madden, for 28 years. Their marriage was a partnership rooted in love, laughter, and mutual support. Together, they cherished their time exploring various beach towns and creating countless memories through their shared adventures. He was also survived by his two stepchildren, Jason Pohlig and Ashley (Brandon) Martin, and his grandson, Knox Martin, who was also his best buddy and a constant source of joy in his life. Peter was also remembered fondly by his four-legged pug, Lucie, who brought him much happiness and companionship. He was also survived by his mother-in-law, Evelyn Petre and long-time family friends, Richard and Carol Cannon, and their children Megan, Lauren, and Richard, who were considered family.

Peter was adored by all who knew him for his infectious humor and ability to make everyone laugh with his jokes. He had a unique gift of making people feel at ease and valued, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.
