Obituary

Paul J. Hewes, Sr., age 67, a longtime resident of Media, PA, died on January 5, 2025.  Paul was the beloved husband of Kathleen Duffy Hewes with whom he shared 38 years of marriage.  He was a loving father to three children and a proud grandfather.

One of seven children born in Newtown Square to the late Walter Hewes and Catherine (née Coll), Paul was a graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School.  He worked for many years as a landscaper.  A man of great faith, Paul was an active parishioner at Nativity BVM.  He was a volunteer fire fighter with Rose Tree Fire Company No. 1 for 23 years and worked with the Special Olympics.  A mentor to many, Paul was always charitable with his time and took great pride in his community.

Paul was an animal enthusiast and advocate. He was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a big fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.  Above all, Paul treasured time spent with his family, especially his children, grandchild and his beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Kathleen, Paul is survived by children Eleanor Hewes (Dan Nocella) of Philadelphia, Paul J. Hewes, Jr. of Media, and Catherine "Kate" Hewes (Brian Butterfield) of Phoenixville and one grandchild, Rainer.

He was preceded in death by his brother Walt Hewes of Pearisburg, VA and is survived by siblings Mary Ross, Helen Moran, Joseph Hewes, Noreen Gomez, and Cathy Ceritano along with many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation 9:30 am on Saturday, January 11th at Nativity BVM Church in Media.  Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 am.  Burial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tyler Arboretum, 515 Painter Rd. Media, PA 19063 ( tylerarboretum.org ).
