Michael Shawn
Maguire
May 27, 1952 — Jun 14, 2025
Michael Shawn Maguire, age 73, died at home in Springfield with his sons by his side on June 14, 2025.
Born and raised in Darby, PA, Michael was one of five children born to the late Marie (nee Quinn) and John C. Maguire. As a boy he attended BVM School where he made lifelong friendships with a group of young men that would ultimately become the self-proclaimed "Darby Rat Pack". After graduating from Monsignor Bonner High School in 1970, during the height of the Vietnam War, Michael voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served as a K9 officer at Hahn AFB in Germany, Takhli AFB in Thailand, and Clark AFB in the Phillipines.
Upon his return from the Air Force, Michael began his career with PennDOT, retiring as a foreman after more than 25 years. He later sold cars with Murphy Ford and Springfield Hyundai. Mike maintained his allegiance to his country through civic duty. He worked the polls on election day and was very active in the Republican party in Springfield and Collingdale, notably serving as a committeeman for Collingdale Borough.
A people person, Mike most recently cherished time spent with his friends at Stingers in Secane and JT Brewski's in Primos. During his years as a Collingdale resident, he enjoyed holding court at O'Hagan's Tavern. He had a great sense of humor and an appreciation for the simple things in life. He enjoyed summer days in North Wildwood, cheering on the Phillies and the Eagles and spending time with his grandkids.
Michael was preceded in death by his stepmother Helena Flynn Maguire and siblings, Sr. Shawn Marie Maguire SND, Nancy Maguire, and Dan Maguire. He is survived by his sons, Michael J. Maguire (Meghan) of Springfield and Thomas J. Maguire of Conshohocken; his three beloved grandchildren Michael, Claire, and Bryn; and his brother, Patrick Maguire of Avondale.
