Michael J. Bury, age 76 years, of Upper Darby, PA  passed away April 3, 2026 at Lankenau Hospital. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland,  Michael made his home in Upper Darby for 32 years. He earned his Bachelors degree from Towson University, and his Masters from West Chester University.

He worked as a financial advisor in his early career, then taught Chess.  Michael earned the rank of chess master and was a Maryland State Chess champion.  He belonged to the United States Chess Federation.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also volunteered his time working with the Penncrest High School Chess Club.

Michael is survived by his wife Lorraine T. Bury (née Bower). 2 children Alexander (Rashmi), and Gabriel.  2 grandchildren Ramya and Priya. He is also survived by his sister Susan Osdarski and his former spouse, Christine Merriman.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.  Memorial contributions to the West Chester Chess Club:  150 W. Miner St. West Chester, PA would be appreciated.
