Martin Wayne DeFrank
September 5, 1974 – March 17, 2025
Martin Wayne DeFrank passed away on March 17, 2025, in the early morning, due to unknown causes.
Born and raised in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Martin spent most of his life in Delco, with brief moves to the South and Claymont, Delaware. From a young age, he was known for his strong work ethic and resourcefulness. His first job was at a print shop, and over the years, he held many roles—mechanic, car detailer, electrician, and warehouse worker. A true jack-of-all-trades, he could do anything from painting a room to reflooring a kitchen or installing a ceiling fan. But his true passion was truck driving. He drove for companies like Western Express, and for the last 12 years, he worked as a driver for Joseph J. Danielle Contractors in Chester, PA.
Martin participated in JROTC during school but left high school early due to difficulties in his environment. He quickly entered the workforce, determined to build a life through grit and perseverance. He lived with his father until his mid-teens before moving back in with his mother. And eventually saving to move on his own.
At around 19, Martin married Deana Neil, and in 1997, they welcomed their daughter, Lisa. The relationship was marked by serious challenges, including Deana's struggles with addiction and abusive behavior. Through it all, Martin remained a steady, loving presence for his children. He later married Heather, with whom he had his second child, Laurel, in 2003. He also embraced the role of stepfather to David, forming a bond that lasted well beyond the marriage. Even after he and Heather separated, they continued to co-parent Laurel with mutual respect, and Martin remained a consistent and devoted father figure to David.
In 2006, following an amicable separation from Heather, Martin reunited with Deana in an effort to rekindle their connection and continue supporting their child. During this time, he also took on the role of stepfather to Simon. Despite the unhealthy dynamics, Martin stayed committed to doing what he believed was best for his family. After Deana's passing in 2021, he remained single, focusing on his children, work, and personal relationships.
Martin was a man with a big heart—he loved deeply, gave selflessly, and showed up when it mattered most. Though he carried a tough exterior, those who knew him well saw his gentleness, loyalty, and sense of humor. He didn't conform to traditional gender roles—he cooked, cleaned, worked tirelessly, and always put his family first. If you needed him, Martin would be there—without hesitation.
He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony DeFrank; his former partner, Deana Neil; his uncle, Leo Dauberman; and his stepfather, George Rumford.
Martin is survived by his wife, Heather DeFrank; his mother, Mary Rumford; his siblings, Lee DeFrank and Connie Berger; and his children: Lisa DeFrank, Laurel DeFrank, David Soles, and Simon Adams.
