Obituary

Marina F. Kaneda, age 95, died peacefully on March 23, 2024. Former wife of the late George Kaneda, Marina lived a beautiful and fulfilling life devoted to her family. She leaves a legacy of 8 children, 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Born in Florence, Italy, Marina was educated in a Florentine convent. She met George, a U.S. Army Infantryman in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, while he was serving in Italy. The two married in Florence and settled near Westtown, PA before moving to Media in 1960. With an instinct for nurturing and all things maternal, Marina found immense joy in her role as a mother to her eight children. As they grew older, she worked as a bookkeeper for various auto dealerships. Marina juggled it all. Her work outside of the home never impeded her work as a mother. She prepared beautiful meals, often using spices from her own garden. Always meticulously dressed, Marina was as beautiful outside as she was inside.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing Scopa, an Italian card game, and was often found tending to her yard, even into her 90's. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her young grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marina is survived by her children Robert Kaneda (Betsy) of Harrisburg, Michael Kaneda (Michel) of Hilo, HI, Thomas Kaneda (Barbara) of Media, Naomi Kaneda of Hollywood, CA, Mary Massaro of Broomall, Marisa Kaneda of Media, Dina Olsen of Coral Gables, FL, and Susan Robins (Tim Hunt) of Chesterfield, SC. She was the devoted grandmother of Wendy Langan, Heather Kaneda, Michelle Battistini, Dina Kaneda, Cassi Kaneda, Krysty Kubojiri, Michael Keahi Kaneda, Pamela Kaneda, Stephanie Gonzalez, Natasha Kaneda, David Kaneda, Elizabeth Kaneda, Christina Kaneda, Joseph Kaneda, Michael Olsen, Melissa Dobol, David Robins, Alicia Biggs, Alex Robins, Nicholas Robins, Justin Yamamoto, Jordan Yamamoto, and Ashley Yamamoto.

Friends are invited to a viewing on Friday evening, April 12th at Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home from 6-8 pm, and again Saturday morning at the funeral home from 9:30-10:30 am. Marina's funeral service will begin at 10:30 am. Burial will be private.
