Obituary

The Murphy Matriarch.

Marianne Murphy Dudo, 72, of Wallingford, PA passed on peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 12, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Marianne was born in Philadelphia and raised in Westbrook Park.  She built her life in Delaware County surrounded by family and friends who experienced the happiness that she brought to life.

Marianne was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 26, 1952, to Thomas P Murphy, Jr. and Helen Mary McCandless Murphy.  She attended Holy Cross Parish Grade School and graduated from Cardinal O'Hara High School in 1970.  She initially worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and then paused her career to raise her daughters and then spent the rest of her career as a Domestic Relations Officer for Delaware County, PA.

Marianne was a remarkable mother and grandmother, whose dedication to her children and grandchildren exemplified unconditional love. Marianne championed love and equality, embracing those marginalized by society and providing shelter and care to everyone she encountered. She lit up the room and kept us laughing…always. Marianne touched each soul she met and profoundly impacted each person, bringing laughter and happiness to our lives. The influence of her kindness has made us better individuals. While her absence is deeply felt, we take solace in knowing that her generous spirit continues to watch over all of us.

Marianne was the mother of two amazing girls, Jennifer and Lisa.  She and the girls were not just mother and daughters, they were the best of friends.  Together the three of them built an extended family that reflected the love that they had for each other.  She had a wonderful relationship with her son-in-law George – whom she thought of as her third child. Marianne, known as "Mamie," was also a devoted grandmother to Georgie and Nora, with whom she shared an incredibly close relationship.

With her dear friends and family, she enjoyed sharing vacations, especially at the Jersey Shore and St. Marten where they laughed and loved and celebrated life. Her journeys with the "Fabulous Five" exemplified the value that she placed on family and the happiness of togetherness.

Throughout her career at Delaware County Domestic Relations, she relentlessly fought for her clients, ensuring they received the support they deserved. Her clients hailed her as a fierce advocate and a dedicated champion. Among her coworkers, she was celebrated for her effervescent personality and exceptional sense of humor, making the workplace a brighter and more enjoyable environment.

Marianne was preceded in death by her parents Thomas P. Murphy, Jr. and Helen Mary McCandless Murphy, as well as her brothers Thomas P. Murphy, III, and Joseph T. Murphy, Sr. She is survived by her daughters Jennifer Dudo and Lisa Phillips (George), her grandchildren George Phillips V and Nora Phillips, her brother Michael T. Murphy, Sr. (Barbara), Kathleen M. Tyndall (Robert), Robert T. Murphy (Fred Steckler), several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

Marianne will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.  Family and friends are invited on Saturday, January 18, 2025, for visitation 10am to 12pm followed by a Memorial Service at Rigby Harting Hagan Funeral Home 15 East Fourth Street, Media PA 19063.
