Obituary

Maria Theresa Kilcur "Terry", of West Chester, PA passed peacefully on September 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 1st, 1953, in Bagnoli Irpino, Italy to the late Victor and Domenica (Lenzi) Chieffo. The youngest of three children Maria and her family came to the United States when she was just three years old settling in Marcus Hook, PA. She attended Immaculate Conception grade school and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1971.

Professionally, Maria was a dedicated employee of the Scott Paper company where she formed lasting friendships and had the distinction of being named Ms. United Way. Following her time at Scott Paper she dedicated her life to her loving husband of 35 years James Kilcur and three sons Jimmy, Patrick and Matthew.

Maria was proud of her Catholic faith and shared that as an educator working at both St. Agnes Church and as a teacher's aide at St. Maximilian School for over 20 years.  After her retirement, she remained active spending time with family and friends, traveling the world, and sitting on the beach in her beloved Avalon, New Jersey, where she had met her husband long ago at the infamous Bongo Room.  When she lost her husband Jim in 2014, her faith in Jesus gave her the strength to live her life with joy and purpose. Her most cherished moments are being a "mom-mom" to her 9 wonderful grandchildren.

Maria is survived by her two brothers Msgr. Ralph Chieffo, and Angelo Chieffo (Anna), and three beloved sons James (Kristen), Patrick (Julie), and Matthew (Stephanie), nephews Michael (Christina), and Stephen, and grandchildren, Annie, Luke, Mary, Cora, Jude, Sophia, Juliet, Stella, and Amelia, and newest grandchild expected arrival in January.  She is predeceased by her brother John and sister Concetta.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Thomas Jefferson and Penn Medicine, but especially the close friends who provided loving and selfless care for her.

A viewing will be held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish Monday September 8th, from 6:00PM – 8:00PM followed by a second viewing and funeral mass on Tuesday, September 9th at St. Mary Magdalen in Media PA. Viewing will begin at 9:30AM with Funeral Mass starting at 11:00AM.  Burial will follow at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
