Margaret M.
Ryan
May 27, 1931 — Dec 26, 2025
Margaret M. Ryan, of Newtown Square, PA, died peacefully at White Horse Village on December 26, 2025 at the age of 94.
The sixth child in her family, Margaret was born and raised in Havertown. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Ryan. Named for her mother, as the first and only girl in the family, she lovingly earned the nickname "Daught", a moniker that stuck with her throughout her entire life. As a girl, Daught attended St. Denis School and Notre Dame de Namur High School. She continued her studies, earning a bachelor's degree at Trinity University and a master's in education through Temple University.
Passionate about Catholic education, Daught began her career as a Sister of Notre de Namur elementary school teacher with the Archdiocese of Baltimore before transferring to the Archdiocese of New York. She eventually found her way back to the Philadelphia area where she served the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for over 35 years. A beloved teacher at St. Albert the Great, St. Lawrence and St. Mary Magdalen, Daught was steady, patient and kind. In her quiet and loving way, she commanded her classroom and earned the respect of countless students and colleagues.
Daught enjoyed traveling, watching sports and reading mystery and History novels. She enjoyed making meals for the poor with a group of her senior friends. Daught was known for her selflessness and generosity. Her life was centered around her Catholic faith. She was an integral member of the St. Mary Magdalen community in Media where she attended Mass regularly and dedicated much of her time to taking care of the church.
Daught is preceded in death by her brothers Joseph (Mary), James (Marie), Harry (Devita), Eugene, Paul (Jean), and Edward (Patricia). She is survived by her dear friend, Patricia Miniszak, as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, great-nieces and grand-nephews and many friends in her church and condo community.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen on January 2, 2026. There will be a calling in the church beginning at 9:30 am. Mass will begin at 11 am. Burial will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to St. Mary Magdalen Endowment Fund, 2400 N. Providence Road, Media, PA 19063.
