Obituary

Margaret Mercik March 14, 1956 – September 27, 2026

Margaret Mercik, 70, of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 27, 2026.

Born on March 14, 1956, in Lublin, Poland, she dedicated her life to her family, her community, and animal welfare. She worked as a librarian at the Marple Library and the Lansdowne Library, where she was known to many children as the "Russian" woman who was always kind, caring, and delighted to help them.

She was also a prominent member of Animal Friends for Life, an organization dedicated to addressing Lansdowne area's stray cat population and supporting other animal rescue efforts. Through her tireless work, dozens of homeless cats found foster and permanent homes, significantly reducing the number of stray cats in the community.

Her passions included interior design, fine art, antiques, movies, television, and fine dining. Margaret's commitment to the Democratic Party was well recognized and appreciated by her fellow Lansdowne Democrats.

She is survived by her parents, Wiesław and Ewa Mercik; her partner Stefen Savastio; her children, Martyna Śliwińska and Filip Lewandowski; her grandson, Draven Jacoby; and her son-in-law, Keith Jacoby.

Margaret will be remembered for her outgoing personality, sarcastic humor, generosity, and unwavering love for the many friends she made in America. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider honoring Margaret's memory with a gift to Animal Friends for Life (afldelco.org/)
