Margaret
Coyne
Dec 15, 1952 — Apr 13, 2026
Margaret Elliott Coyne, aged 72 of Media, Pa, died after a short illness on April 13, 2026. Margaret was born in Swarthmore, PA on December 15, 1952 to Orrin M. Elliott and Margaret G. Armitage. She is predeceased by her parents and her brothers, David and Charles Ellliott and is survived by her brothers Russell Elliott (Sunflower) and Lewis Elliott (Margaret).
Margaret earned a BA from Ursinus and worked in law libraries, including Temple and Villanova’s. Margaret loved library work. Margaret also worked as a special education aide at Indian Lane Elementary in Media, PA.. She served St Matthews Episcopal church in Willow Grove PA for decades, singing, participating in bell choir and Altar Guild. Margaret was a deeply faithful person.
In her passing Margaret leaves many long-term friends, including singing colleagues, children whose lives she touched, and Beatles enthusiasts. She attended numerous Ringo Starr concerts, sitting in the front row and was gifted the Band’s drumsticks by Ringo from onstage.
Despite being born with many serious birth defects, Margaret from an early age knew how to live her life to the fullest. Margaret’s mother served the Philadelphia Flower Show, breeding special award-winning plants. Margaret’s love for plants extended to her yard where she tried to create a Wildlife Sanctuary.
Margaret started going to American Bandstand in Philadelphia as a young teenager and then the Beatles arrived from England and that was that! Her intense love and admiration for the Beatles, especially John Lennon (Margaret bravely kissed John when Yoko wasn’t looking) and Ringo Starr, led her to follow Ringo when he played the East Coast, following his concerts from Virginia to NYC.
Margaret’s love of chocolate and chocolate ice cream during COVID lockdown in the winter was not an insurmountable problem. Wrapped up in a space blanket so she could safely eat her beloved chocolate ice cream outside during winter was warm enough and delicious. Margaret was unfailingly kind and made sure that disabled people were “seen.” Charlene Wooten, Margaret’s niece by marriage remembers how Margaret mothered her as a young girl and then helped with Charlene’s two autistic daughters.
Margaret’s serious disabilities did not limit what she wanted to do in her life. Margaret lived fully. Margaret’s love of music, whether Beatles or classical, where she sang tenor, were unabated by many physical obstacles to full participation. As she was dying her concerns remained constant, how could she get back to Media Chamber Chorale so she could sing under the direction of John Stroud who was right up there with her Lennon and Ringo.
Perseverance, fierce love and kindness was Margaret Elliott Coyne.
Margaret was cremated April 21, 2026. A memorial service will be held this fall. Details to be announced.
