Luise S.
Gessler
Nov 24, 1931 — Apr 7, 2026
Luise S. Gessler (nee Shaw), loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at the age of 94, in Phoenix, Arizona, surrounded by her daughter, Christine, and granddaughter, Lauren.
Born to the late Charles and Ada Shaw, Luise was born and raised in Media, Pennsylvania. Luise was a hard working, dedicated postal worker for 41 years, and retired at the age of 80. She was known for her smile, strength, generous spirit, and kindness to everyone around her. Luise was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Luise enjoyed going to the casinos in Atlantic City, going to the horse races, but most of all she looked forward to baseball season, as she was an avid Phillies fan, and enjoyed watching the games on tv as well as attending the games. Luise was beyond thrilled to have had the opportunity to attend the 1980 World Series winning home game 6 with her son, Doug.
Luise also enjoyed taking country road drives through Lancaster, PA, and day trips to Ocean City, N.J. In her free time, Luise would work on her Cryptogram books, which she excelled at, and thoroughly enjoyed, as well as playing Scrabble. Luise loved airline travel, and traveled several times every year to Arizona to spend time with her daughter and granddaughter. Luise also traveled to the Bahamas and Jamaica.
Luise found joy in giving, especially at Christmas, where she tirelessly wrapped gifts for her family after a long day at work, just to see the smile on her children's and grandchildren's faces when they opened their gifts.
Luise is survived by her daughters, Susan (Gene) Scanlon, and Christine M. Gessler, as well as her granddaughter, Lauren C. Gessler. Christine and Lauren were Luise's primary caregivers for the past four and half years of her life. Luise is also survived by five additional grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years, Joseph V. Gessler, Sr., her two sons, Joseph V. Gessler, Jr., and Vincent Douglas "Doug" Gessler, as well as her daughter, Valerie (Gessler) Allen.
