Obituary

Lucy Green Messick of Middletown

Lucy Green Messick, 70, a lifelong resident of Middletown Township, Pennsylvania, died on July 8, 2026 after a courageous, nine-year battle with cancer. A devoted wife, mother and friend, Lucy epitomized grace and kindness to all those she met.

Lucy was born on Nov. 15, 1955, to Horace and Polly Green of Mount Alverno Road in Middletown. Lucy was the youngest of five children.

She graduated from Penncrest High School in 1973, where she played lacrosse, and from Shippensburg College in 1977. Lucy excelled at languages and in particular Spanish which she studied in school and in Spain.

After college, she taught Spanish at Penncrest High School and Paxon Hollow Middle School and worked summers as a waitress. Wanting more variety in her work life, she became a salesperson for companies selling educational videos to schools. Her territory was the Northeast which she crisscrossed by car. She also worked as the marketing director for Delaware County’s Brandywine Conference and Visitors Bureau housed at Rose Tree Park.

Lucy married Guy Messick in May 2011 and they resided in Middletown, merging their two families with Lucy having two sons and Guy having two sons and one daughter from previous marriages.

Lucy and Guy loved to travel and explored many destinations including California, Hawaii, Canada, Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, Argentina, Chile, Botswana and South Africa.

She was educated and sophisticated when the occasion called for that but she was also comfortable at backyard parties in jeans with a bottle of beer in her hand. An accomplished pianist, Lucy played at her family’s annual Christmas caroling party in her home.

Lucy was a caring, loyal friend, always remembering those who needed comfort and support.

She was a beautiful woman with piercing blue eyes that were mesmerizing and a smile that lit up a room. She will be missed by many but especially by her family.

Lucy was predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert Green and sister Mary Diamond (William).

She is survived by her husband, Guy A. Messick of Middletown, her sons Kyle Wright (wife Gio) of Philadelphia and Wesley Wright (Lauren) of Annandale, Va., sister Elizabeth Zoumas (Norman) of Harrisburg, Susan Feyrer (Jack) of New London, N.H., her cousin Cindy Armitage (Michael) of Media, her cousin Mimi Armitage (James) of Newtown Square, her granddaughter Winslow and grandson William. She is also survived by her stepchildren Bryan Messick (Kelly) of Media, Adam Messick (Clarrisa Joy) of Golden CO, and Allison Chavanelle (Patrick) of Falmouth, ME, and the children of the stepchildren: Reagan, Kendall, Millie, Lou, Emerson and Oliver.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday July 15 at Middletown Presbyterian Church, 273 South Old Middletown Road, Media, PA beginning at 9:00 am followed by a funeral service at 10:30 am. Interment will be at Cumberland Cemetery (family only).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choosing.
