Obituary

Lucy Mary Blackley
April 30, 1934 – June 14, 2026

With heavy hearts and immense gratitude for her love, we announce the passing of Lucy Mary Blackley, who peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born on April 30, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York, Lucy was one of seven children born to James Vincent and Rachele "Katie" Patalano. She shared a special bond with her twin sister, Rose, and remained devoted to her siblings and family throughout her life.

Growing up in Brooklyn, Lucy was surrounded by a large and loving family, including her twin sister, Rose. Lucy and Rose shared a connection that only twins can understand, remaining a constant presence in each other's lives through childhood, adulthood, and into their later years. Lucy later graduated from I.S. 228 David A. Boody Middle School, completing her education through the 8th grade.

After completing her education, Lucy entered the workforce at a young age and contributed to the Korean War effort by soldering instrument boards in a factory. In the early 1970s, while on a cruise with lifelong friends, she met the love of her life, Samuel "Sam" Blackley. The two married in Elkton, Maryland, in July 1974 and built a life together in Middletown Township, Pennsylvania.

Lucy worked as a Dietary Aide at Penncrest High School and later at Granite Farms/Lima Estates, where she became known for making sure everyone was well fed and cared for. Looking after others came naturally to her and remained one of the defining qualities of her life.

A natural caretaker, Lucy poured her energy into maintaining a warm and welcoming home. She was meticulous in everything she did, from tending her gardens to keeping her house spotless. Family often joked that no task was too small for Lucy's attention, and she wouldn't rest until the job was done right.

Her home was a place where no one ever left hungry. Family, friends, neighbors, and even workers who came to the house were welcomed with coffee, cold cuts, cookies, crackers, anything and everything Lucy had to offer. Chances were, you were also leaving with leftovers.

Lucy was an exceptional baker whose brownies, cheesecakes, cookies, and especially her famous pumpkin bread became family favorites. Living just across the yard from her niece's family, she delighted in sending her great-niece and nephew home with baked goods and treats. Years later, those recipes and traditions remain some of the family's most treasured memories.

She loved a good bargain and could happily spend an entire day shopping. Whether at Boscov's, the Goods Store, Pathmark, or Acme, Lucy always seemed to find exactly what she needed, and usually quite a bit more. She enjoyed gardening, jewelry, sewing, traveling with friends, and making Christmas magical for those she loved.

A lifelong Catholic, Lucy's faith guided her through every season of life. Even after the loss of her beloved husband Sam in 1992, she remained dedicated to her devotion to God and her parish community. Family and friends will forever remember her signature blessing, wishing them "lots of luck," her way of reminding others that God's blessings were always near.

In her later years, although dementia slowly took pieces of her memory, it never diminished her kindness, generosity, or desire to care for others. Even when she needed help herself, she continued offering whatever she had to those around her.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Blackley; her parents, James and Rachele Blackley; her siblings Frank, Peter, Louis, James "Sonny," Vienna, and her beloved twin sister, Rose Patalano. She is survived by her niece Annamarie Ottolenghi, nephew-in-law Carlo Ottolenghi, great-niece Olivia Ottolenghi, great-nephew Christopher Ottolenghi and his wife Allison Ottolenghi.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory, her baked goods, her generosity, her unwavering faith, her "lots of lucks," and the countless ways she made everyone around her feel welcomed, cared for, and loved.

Though we will miss her dearly, we find comfort knowing she has been reunited with Sam, Rose, and the family she missed so deeply.

Lucy leaves behind a legacy not measured by accomplishments or possessions, but by the countless people she fed, cared for, prayed for, and loved throughout her life.
