Louis J.
Varallo
Dec 17, 1934 — Dec 19, 2020
Louis J. Varallo, Jr., 86. Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Louis (Lou) J. Varallo, Jr., passed away on December 19, 2020 at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, NJ. Lou, who was always so full of life and had a great sense of humor, will be greatly missed by all those who loved him and those whose lives he touched.
Lou was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis J. Varallo Sr.; his loving and wonderful wife, Rene Varallo; his father- and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Francis A. Caunso Sr. (Rose); his three devoted children, Louis J. Varallo, III., Anthony J. Varallo and Rosemarie Varallo Myers; his daughter-in-law, Donna Varallo; and two grandchildren Samantha and Victoria Varallo.
Lou is survived by his sister, Sister Virginia Varallo IHM. of Berwyn, PA. His children whom he adored, Frank G. Varallo (Susan) of Blackwood, NJ, Michael A. Varallo of Philadelphia, PA, and Gina Pollino (James) of Harleysville, PA, and 10 loving grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by Leslie E. Scott of Ocean City, NJ and formerly of Springfield, PA.
A resident of Ocean City, NJ, Lou was born in Philadelphia, PA, on December 17,1934 and was a 1952 graduate of North Catholic High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 traveling to France and Italy. After serving in the army, Lou worked in construction, became Vice President of Rockland Construction and then founded Rockport Construction leaving his legacy across buildings and parks throughout Philadelphia.
Lou was a hardworking, generous, devoted and dedicated family man, affectionately referred to as "Pop" by those who knew him. He lived his life to the fullest and taught those around to him to never take life too seriously. When asked how he was doing, he was always quick to respond with "never better." Pop was always telling jokes and laughing with those around him. In his spare time (when he wasn't with his family or working), Pop enjoyed the simple pleasures in life including, "playing the ponies," listening to The Rat Pack, completing the crossword, fishing, boating, taking trips to Florida, and watching the sun set over boats in the bay while enjoying a martini from his balcony. He was happy to share these small delights with family and friends.
While all those who loved Lou are saddened by his passing, we find comfort in our many happy memories, the time we shared with him around the dinner table, the stories he shared with us, and the smiles he brought to our faces. We will remember him with each passing of a ship, sound of the sea and Sinatra tunes, and sight of an eagle riding a tailwind. Pop will live in our hearts and our memories forever.
Service: A private funeral mass for family will be celebrated on Friday, January 8. (Due to Covid-19 restrictions, masks and social distancing are required). Once it's safe to do so, a celebration of life will be offered in Lou's honor in the spring.
