Longtime Upper Providence Township and Media resident Lawrence Gray Holliday passed away peacefully at Riddle Memorial Hospital on Friday, December 4 th of Covid-Pneumonia complications.
He was the son of Florence (nee Reinhard) and the late Fred A. Holliday of Wallingford, PA.
Larry was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1931 and attended St. Theresa Elementary School and later middle school at Saint Agatha's School, in Columbus, Ohio.
He attended and graduated in 1949 from Aquinas College High School, in Columbus, Ohio. There, he was an Honor's Student, involved in the Choir and Intramural basketball. Then in 1953 he graduated from Ohio State University. While there, he began to work for Univac and was a computer specialist. He was subsequently employed by RCA and traveled throughout the United States and abroad. After he retired, he joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1991 as a Contractor, in the Senior Environmental Employee ("SEE") Program.
In the 1980's and 1990's Larry volunteered in Philadelphia with Action Aids Organization and served as a mentor to many men who were suffering from HIV and AIDS. He spent a great deal of time providing support and counseling and richly enhanced the lives of these he connected with.
Larry was a long time member at Nativity B.V. M. Church in Media, Pa. and deeply loved his church. Larry was also a Marine Corps Veteran and served his Country proudly for four years.
Larry was a devoted caregiver to his nephew, Timothy Cody, who pre-deceased him in 2018. On many weekends Larry spent time driving Tim to advocacy and Special Olympics Events and cheering him on.
In addition to his nephew and parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Ann; his brother, James; and his nephews John and Michael. He is survived by his niece, Elizabeth (Lisa) Holliday of Farmers Branch, TX.
A graveside burial will take place at Saint Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 S. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA at 10 AM on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Larry's name may be made to Special Olympics, Delaware County, Box 1202, Havertown, PA 19083.
