Laurie Anne
Hurwitz
Apr 8, 1974 — Jun 21, 2024
Laurie A. Hurwitz, age 50, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, June 21, 2024.
Laurie was a life long resident of Drexel Hill. She graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1992. She continued her education in Health and Physical Education at East Stroudsburg University, and earned her Master's at Gratz College. She went on to become a Health and Physical Education Teacher for the Philadelphia School District over 20 years.
Laurie was very much involved, and loved sports throughout her life. She was a talented softball, field hockey, and basketball player. When not on the field playing, she enjoyed being a coach and a referee. She also served as a PIAA softball umpire. She was well loved by the Drexel Hill Challengers baseball team players, coaches, and families. When not on the baseball field, Laurie spent her happiest times watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Phillies, Flyers, and Chicago Blackhawks.
Laurie especially loved being a mom, and her very special title as Aunt Laurie to her nieces and nephews. She loved her cats too. She enjoyed spending time with her family watching sports, listening to music and seeing bands perform, playing video games, and spending time at her beach home. The 4th of July, Halloween, Christmas, and family birthdays were very special time for her. She liked to show off her juggling skills and followed her grandfather's passion for doing magic tricks at a young age.
Laurie was predeceased by her father, Edward Hurwitz, Grandparents, Morton and Gertrude Hurwitz, and Nicholas and Paraskevi Prokovas, and brother William Hurwitz. She is survived and will be forever loved by her son Nicholas Campson, longtime fiancé Robert Flood, Mother, Kortesa Prokovas, sister Donna Freas, nieces Alyssa & Evangeline Culpepper (Colin) , Pamela Hurwitz (Justin) , Haelle Woy, nephews, Sean Patrick and Ryan Freas, and her cats Sammy and Sharky.
Relatives and friends are invited to her graveside ceremony on Monday, July 1st, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. at Glenwood Memorial Gardens (section R) located at 2321 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA 19008.
