Obituary

Kevin Michael Flanagan, 56, also affectionately known as "Gilligan", left the area he resided his entire life on Thursday, September 22nd and headed to his eternal home. Born on February 28, 1966, he was a longtime resident of Wayne and Paoli, PA. Kevin was a beloved member of the Conestoga High School Class of 1985, St Luke Lutheran Church in Devon, PA and a constant presence for 35+ years at Devon Gulf/Liberty Gas Station. It's no coincidence that 'Kevin' rhymes with 'Devon'.

Although Kevin had Huntington's Disease, Covid took him from us. Kevin had every reason to be miserable over his diagnosis. It is the cruelest of the cruel, without a cure, and robs you of your memory, mind and movement, but Kevin handled his diagnosis like a champ and faced it with dignity.

Kevin could hardly pass a dog without petting it, a bar without picking up a round or miss the chance to buy a T-shirt that abused the Dallas Cowboys. He was always the life of the party and a consummate troublemaker. Let's just say, most of his teachers remember him NOT for his academic performance.

In February, he loved to celebrate his birthday; in May, he would be glued to the TV watching the Indy 500; in November, he could be found doing the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot with his family; and in December, he was always a child at Christmas. Kevin had an uncanny ability to connect with all people in a memorable and positive way and making them laugh. Loud. Thinking back on Kevin, it's hard not to smile.

Kevin is survived by his adoring and devoted mother, Herta Fleig Flanagan; older sister Chris Feaster and her husband, Bill; younger sister Judy Milby and her husband, Bill; five nephews he adored Kyle, Zach and Dylan Feaster as well as Trey and Lukas Milby. Although he was Uncle Kevin, his nephews thought of him as FUNcle Kevin. Additionally, he leaves behind a remarkable man who was a father figure, Jack Campbell, and many loving friends.

Kevin loved a getaway and enjoyed visiting many states and trips to Ireland, Germany, Mexico, Punta Cana and more. But boy, did he love Punta Cana! His favorite place to sit in the sun was on the Cove Beach of Cape May while watching for dolphins. Kevin was a straightforward guy and genuinely enjoyed life's simple pleasures – cheesesteaks & chicken wings, yummy Handel's ice cream, watching any and every Philly sports team, golfing (although he was pretty awful), music (from rock to funk and he could bust a move), and looking for the moon at night. What he loved most of all, was time spent with friends and family especially his nephews, who could do no wrong in his eyes.

Kevin's family would like to give thanks for the kindness and support received by many, but especially for the healthcare workers that cared for Kevin these last 16 months at the Wayne Center. The family welcomes all to celebrate Kevin's life at a memorial service at Saint Luke Lutheran Church, Devon, PA on Saturday, October 29th at 11:00am with a visitation and luncheon reception immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Philly Cure HD and Saint Luke Lutheran Church, Devon, PA. Or, next time you are at a pub, buy a round and toast to Gilligan. Cheers!
