Obituary

Justin Drew Macfarlan, 47, passed in his sleep on Februry 19, 2019 after a brief respiratory illness.

Drew was a presence in every room, optimistic, kind, supportive, resilient, made every stranger a friend, loved being on the water and was always up for an adventure – a truly good man.

Born in Ridgewood, NJ, Drew developed an affinity for all things mechanical, along with a lifelong love of boats.  Drew excelled in athletics, playing both football and basketball for Ridgewood High School.  Decorated for his talent on the field, Drew was recruited heavily and chose to play football for Duke University.  He graduated in 1994 with a degree in Sociology and Market Management.  Drew enjoyed a successful career in sales and resided in several east coast cities before moving to the Philadelphia area.

One of Drew's proudest accomplishments was his sobriety, held since 2011, which he gained with the help of a talented medical team and the invaluable support of former football players, and held with the steadfast guidance of his AA community.

Predeceased by his father, Robert, Drew is survived by his mother Maria, his sister Paige and her husband Jonathan, his nephew Holden, aunts Julie, Heidi, Sue, and Nancy, uncles Reid and Frank, cousins David, Jeff, Heather, Scott (and their families), Niko, Travis, Austin, and Jen, his girlfriend of five years.

In accordance with his wishes and aversion to ceremony, Drew's burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Concussion Legacy Foundation, www.concussionfoundation.org in his memory.

If you find yourself near the water, catch a fish for Drew.  He enjoyed yard work, so think of him as the spring flowers appear.  Enjoy a great meal with family and friends.  As you do these things, hold our gentle giant in the light.  He will be missed.
