Joy Wilson
Oakey
Nov 29, 1948 — Nov 28, 2023
Joy Wilson Oakey, 74, of Media, PA, passed away peacefully at home on November 28th, 2023 from Glioblastoma. She followed her husband, Dick Oakey, who passed away in February 2021. Joy faced Dick's loss and her illness with determination, forbearance, and ultimately peaceful acceptance. Like much of the rest of her life, the last stage was marked by her humility and regard for how her deeds impact others, and she spent her final two years on earth preparing all she could to help her loved ones transition into a world without her.
Joy found meaning and happiness in her role as a mother to two sons, Richard C. Oakey and John W. Oakey, as well as to daughter-in-law Sheetal Sehgal, granddaughters Luna (5) and "baby" Joy (2). Her motherly support extended to everyone who loved her children.
Her calling as a nursing supervisor at Crozer-Chester Medical Center also shapes her legacy, where her calm competence helped her listen in times of crisis and address the needs of patients, families and colleagues.
Joy loved her pets, caring for cats, dogs, and even a horse throughout her life. She trained her dogs Oliver and JoJo at the Dog Training Center of Chester County. She also developed a love of running later in life, and won many medals at Masters track events with TNT International Racing club, where she was nicknamed "Queen" for her signature wave. She was curious, exploring photography and journalism to learn about the world.
Joy gave to many charities, served as a volunteer for various causes, and listened to people in a way that let them know she cared about what they were experiencing. She was often willing to sacrifice her own time to help others on their way.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Joy is survived by siblings Ann Wilson of Tacoma, WA and W. Scott Wilson of Beaverton, OR.
True to her name, she will be missed dearly.\
