Obituary

Ret. Lt. Cmdr Joseph P. Cahill, age 85, recently of Downingtown, PA and a long time resident of Media, PA, passed away peacefully on February 25th, 2026

Born and raised in the Bronx and New York, New York, he received a scholarship and attended Manhattan Prep in New York and The US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

Joe graduated from The Naval Academy , Class of 1961 and continued his Naval career serving our country in various capacities from Vietnam, Submarines, being a chaperone for President John F. Kennedy's inauguration to

becoming a Naval Recruiter in Philadelphia.  His greatest accomplishments was becoming the husband to Kathleen Mary (nee Cox) Cahill and becoming a Father of three children, Peter, Kathleen and Patrick. He is survived by his son Patrick Cahill (Kerry), his granddaughter Alexa Cahill,  his daughter Kathleen Cahill, his brother James T. Cahill, his niece Lauren Cahill and also his brother-in-law Brother Jerome Cox, FSC (Lasalle University).

Joe was a volunteer with Pro Life and a wonderful contributer to his family and community. Joe's hobbies ranged from cooking, traveling, marching in the yearly Veterans Day Parade in Media, PA to attending the exciting Navy football games, politics to enjoying watching his children play soccer or attend their plays and performances.  Above all, Joe was a devoted and loving Father, Husband, Brother, Uncle and Grandfather and he will be dearly missed.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at St Mary Magdalen Church, 2400 N. Providence Rd. Media, PA on Thursday, March 5th, 2026.  Viewing is from 10 am to 11am and the Mass will be at 11am.
