Obituary

John Patrick Sullivan, of Garnet Valley, PA and Sea Isle City, NJ, passed away peacefully on June 14th, 2024, surrounded by family.

Born in Darby, PA on September 11, 1945, to the late John and Ann Sullivan.  John graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School in 1963. In 1965, he was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably until 1967. Upon leaving the army, John attended St. Joseph's University graduating in 1974.

Professionally, John had a distinguished career at Thomas Jefferson University and Hospital, beginning in 1982 as Manager of Indirect Compensation. In 1997, his exceptional skills in human resources led to his appointment as Vice President of Administration. John's work was instrumental in elevating Thomas Jefferson to one of the premier hospitals and universities in the country.  In 1999, John was awarded "The Spirit of Life" Award by the Tri- State Labor and Management Council for the City of Hope.  He retired in June of 2006.

John was a quiet man, loving husband and devoted father who loved playing golf with his sons followed by a few gin and tonics.  He was an avid reader and spent every summer for the past 20 years at his home away from home and favorite place, Sea Isle City, where he watched numerous sunsets and spent quality time with his kids and grandchildren.

John married Carol in 1971, whom he met at the T Bar in Ridley Twp., PA.    He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Carol (nee Brink), and his loving children, Traci (Marc) DiCamillo, Ryan (Jamie) Sullivan, Katie Sullivan, and Matthew (Nicole) Sullivan. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Finegan (Frank) and his brother Terence (Wanda) Sullivan. He was predeceased by his brother Michael (Michelle) Sullivan and his brother-in-law Frank Finegan.

While he may not be here in person any longer, all one needs to do is look in the eyes of his nine grandchildren:  Lauren, Quinn, Jordyn, Maggie, Jack, Reese, Jason, Emerson, and Miles, who so eloquently reflect all the attributes of their Pop-Pop.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass on Tuesday, June 25th at 11:30am at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 2400 N Providence Rd, Media, PA 19063, where friends may call at 9:30am to 11:15am in the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org
