John A. Stango, a longtime resident of Springfield, PA, died on May 25, 2024 in his home at the age of 97. Mr. Stango lived a long, healthy, and happy life.  His beloved wife, Alice, preceded him in death in 2020 at the age of 93.  John is survived by his devoted daughter, Cheryl Stango of Media, PA.

Born to the late Anthony and Maria (née Coppalella), John spent his childhood years in South Philadelphia.  He attended Bok Vocational High School before serving as a fireman in the US Navy during World War II.  John began his career with Westinghouse Electric Company, retiring as a manager after 40 years in 1984.  He and Alice initially settled in Glenolden eventually moving to Springfield where they lived for over 50 years.  He was a former member of Holy Cross Parish.

John was a good man who had great appreciation for the simple things in life. He looked forward to his daily walks. He was happy to do the grocery shopping and other errands because it gave him an excuse to be out among his community. During election time, John volunteered as a poll worker. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and he enjoyed golfing and trips to the casino.  At home, he spent many days in his garden and often tuned into TMC to watch his beloved old movies.

To know John was to love him.  He was quick to lend an ear and a helping hand, and he'll be missed by all who knew him.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen Church on Monday, June 3, 2024.  There will be a visitation from 10-11. Mass will begin at 11 am.  Burial will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
