Obituary

John (Scotty or Jack) Walter Scott Jr. of Media, PA died on September 22, 2020.

He was born on April 14, 1931 to John and Gladys. After graduating from Upper Darby High School in 1951, John joined the Air Force and served proudly until 1953. While on leave, he fell in love with Phillis, and after a 6-month courtship, the two were married in June of 1953. Over their 67 years of marriage, they welcomed six children: John, Debi, Stephen, Vikki, Chrissy and Kimmy. Generations later, the family has grown to include 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, to whom he is affectionately known as "Pop Pop."

John was an avid outdoorsman and shared his love of hunting, fishing and boating with his family and many friends. He enjoyed time with his ever-growing family, weekends at hunting camp, and his work.

John devoted a 66-year career to the fire sprinkler business. He began working as a pipe fitter for Adelphia, where his father also worked as a salesman. Over the years, he worked in design, sales, and eventually became an owner.  Later he and a partner founded Commonwealth Fire Protection Company (CFPC), now headquartered in Leola, Pa.

Carrying on the family business, John's second son, Stephen, joined CFPC as a field fitter in 1978 and later became the owner himself. John recently retired from CFPC at the age of 88.

Those who knew him best remember his innate ability to form friendships in even the most unlikely of places. He was always willing to engage in conversation and had a talent for creating understanding between two strangers.

He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen and grandson, Lucas. He lived life to the fullest on his terms – a long life of 89 years with countless memories that will live on through his loving family.

A private mass will be held for immediate family to honor and celebrate John's life. Friends and family may livestream John's funeral mass on Wednesday, September 30th at 11 am.  Please click on the following link to view the mass: www.stmarymagdalen.net/live-stream
