John A.
Sanders
Apr 16, 1939 — Jan 2, 2021
John A. Sanders, age 81, died peacefully at his home in Media on January 2, 2021. He was a loving husband of nearly 60 years, a devoted father and proud grandfather.
John was born and raised in Drexel Hill, PA to the late Francis A. and Suzanne Sanders. He was a graduate of Upper Darby High School and obtained his BS from Villanova University in 1961. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps before beginning his career as a CPA. He worked with Coopers & Lybrand (PwC) as a manager for 33 years and later became the Vice President and CFO of Superior Group where he worked until his retirement.
John and his wife, Marie (nee Alpigini), were longtime residents of Media, PA and seasonal residents of Bonita Springs, FL for the past 15 years. They were the proud parents of four boys, and family was everything to John. He looked forward to Sunday night dinners in Naples with Angela and John and in Media with Teresa and Steve. Either home would include the ritual of martinis with his sons. John's many enjoyable and challenging interests included sailing, boating, skiing, and golf. He learned sailing from his father and shared his love of it with his own family, particularly his son John, and his love of golf with Stephen. John and Marie had fun times with dear friends from Springhaven Golf Club and at Worthington C.C. in Florida where they loved the game of golf, bocce, and sharing delightful get togethers and dinners with friends.
An avid Philadelphia sports fan, John enjoyed attending Phillies games with his sons and pals and never missed the Flyers. When his children were young, the family loved spending weeks in Avalon, and later family vacations in Ocean City, NJ were anticipated and cherished. Lovers of travel, John and Marie had many beautiful trips to Europe resulting in lasting, treasured memories.
John was mechanically inclined. He had a special talent for maintenance and repairs, from his '46 Ford as a teen to his boat and home as an adult. He always made himself available to share his knowledge and ability and appreciated the pleasure of being with family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his beloved sons Robert and Matthew and his sisters Betty Lawson and Carol Sanders.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marie; his children John A. Sanders, Jr. (Angela) of Naples, FL and Stephen C. Sanders (Teresa) of Malvern; 5 grandchildren Luke, Alec, Julie, Suzie and Will; and siblings Catherine Ursomarso (Frank), Stephen Sanders (Irene) and Rita Lawley (Dennis) along with many nieces and nephews.
