Boyda, John "Jack" Richard
On September 29, 2026, age of 85. Jack was born August 29, 1941 in Carnegie PA. He subsequently lived in Edgewood MD; Conowingo MD; Glen Mills PA; Ocean City MD; and most recently in Media PA.
Jack was born and raised in Carnegie PA where he was an Altar Boy at All Saints PNC Church, was a Golf Caddy at Chartiers Country Club, played Football for and graduated from Carnegie High School (1959). Jack went to Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA on a Football Scholarship, graduating (1963) with a degree in Civil Engineering and Commissioned into the Army Reserves at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Of note, during the 1959 season the team was nationally ranked until losing to Penn State and beat Virginia Tech, finishing the season 8-1-1. Jack also received an MBA from Penn State at State College, PA.
After VMI, Jack worked for the Southern Railway based in Charlotte NC. During the Vietnam War period, he was active duty Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds and Edgewood Arsenal during the Vietnam War period and had responsibility for Munitions and Munitions Training. He continued his service as an Army Reserves Officer, retiring at the rank of Captain. After fulfilling his military commitment, Jack went to work for the Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO) starting at Conowingo Dam, working at various locations including Muddy Run, Peach Bottom and Oregon Shops, retiring as a Sr. Executive.
After Retiring from PECO, Jack spent about 18 months as a consultant in the Nuclear Power Industry, before changing careers to become a Real Estate Agent in Ocean City, MD.
Jack enjoyed coaching little league sports such as Football and Baseball at Brandywine Youth Club; Playing Golf; Wood Working and participating in Lions Club.
Jack was a fighter and survived Bladder Cancer (2010), Prostate Cancer (2010), Thyroid Cancer (2017) and Pancreatic Cancer (2018). He finally succumbed to Kidney Disease, Heart Disease and Vascular Disease complications, dying peacefully in his sleep at Riddle Memorial Hospital, Media PA.
Jack was the husband of Kathleen Phyllis "Phyllis" Boyda (nee King), married 61 years. Son of the late John Joseph and Helen Louise (nee Nowacki) Boyda of Carnegie PA. Grandson of the late Jan (John) and Michalina (nee Szpak) Bojda (Boyda) and Leopold A and Ewa (Eva) K (nee Makar / Macker) Nowacki of Carnegie PA, all 4 of whom emigrated from Poland. Brother of Arleen H Porter (the late Larry) of Centerville OH; Dr. Robert J. Boyda (Helen) of Boston MA; the late Janet L. Boyda of Carnegie PA/ Boston MA; Kenneth L. Boyda (Virginia "Ginger") of Wautoma WI. Father of Michele A. Boyda Cipollone of Glen Mills PA; Mike Boyda (Brittnie) of Schwenksville PA; Kathleen 'Kathy" Louise Boyda Conlin (partner Bill Hoelzel) of Boca Raton FL. Grandfather of Lauren T Cipollone, Jessica S Cipollone and Michael V Cipollone of Glen Mills PA; Kelsey M Boyda of Portland OR; Alexandra "Alex" D Boyda of Washington DC; Mikhaila V Boyda (fiancé Alex Baker) of Phoenixville PA, Addie Rossi of Philadelphia PA, Avery Rossi of Schwenksville PA; James "Jim" A. Conlin III (Maria) of Morristown NJ; John "Jack" M. Conlin of Charlotte NC, Kathleen Elizabeth "Betsy" Conlin of Horsham PA; Brendon S Conlin of Morristown NJ. Great Grandfather of James A Conlin IV of Morristown NJ.
Friends received Saturday October 31 at 9:30am in the Parish Hall at St. John's Episcopal Church, 576 Concord RD, Glen Mills, PA 19342. Mass of Christian Burial will take place in the Church at 11am, with Burial to follow in the St. John's Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
