He graduated from Penncrest High School and Penn State University. After a few years living in State College, he moved to South Philadelphia, working in various restaurants and bars and eventually becoming a distiller at Philadelphia Distilling Co, where he loved applying his biology background to developing spirits with great botanical influence, including his line of Jack's Bitters.

In addition to violin Jack played keyboard, Bass and numerous other instruments. While at Penn State, he played in a band called the Bare Soles which won a battle of the band's competition. More recently he was the keys player / multi-instrumentalist in the band Thunderbird Divine.
Jack had a profound love and respect for nature and all the natural world.
