Joan Van
Horn
Aug 2, 1933 — Nov 21, 2025
Joan Van Horn (née Remington), age 92, a longtime resident of Glen Mills, died peacefully on November 21, 2025.
The daughter of the late Earl and Isabel (née Taylor) Remington, Joan was born in Folsom and spent her childhood years in the Faraday Park section of Ridley Township. After graduating from Ridley High School Joan worked for a few years at Westinghouse. She soon married her beloved husband, the late Robert Louis Van Horn, and her focus became her growing family and the loving home she created for them. Joan was an active member of the Church of Atonement where she taught Sunday School. As her children grew older, Joan returned to work at Tara Life Insurance Company and later served as the secretary to the Director of Language Arts at the Delaware County Intermediate Unit for over 15 years until her retirement in 1999. During retirement Joan volunteered at Riddle Memorial Hospital.
Joan loved to entertain and was the consummate host. She was a wonderful baker and enjoyed knitting for her family and friends. She spent many peaceful moments coloring intricate pictures with colored pencils. She was happiest watching her Phillies and spending time with family especially at the beach in OCNJ.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 2016 along with her son, Jonathan Van Horn. She is survived by children Kathryn Bulisky (the late Stanley), Carol Healy (Robert Foth), and Charles Van Horn (Margaret); grandchildren Dalton Van Horn (Jordan), Alexandria Bulisky, and Nicholas Bulisky; step-grandchildren Marie Hague (Eric), Michelle Cortes (Dany), and William Inzerillo. She is also survived by four step-great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Joan's life on Saturday, December 6th at Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home. There will be a calling from 10 am – 12 pm. Her memorial service will begin at 12 pm. Burial at Union Hill Cemetery will be private on a separate date.
