Joan U. Alston, age 96 years, died peacefully at Sterling Nursing Home in Media on September 26, 2019.  Joan was born on May 11, 1923 in Berlin, Germany to Otto and Meta Dreyfus.  She came to the United States at age 23 and spent the next 68 years residing in Baltimore, MD.  She was the wife of the late Jonathan H. Applestein who died in 1979.  Joan obtained her Master of Arts degree from John Hopkins University and she worked as a trainer at Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. which is now Exelon.  In her free time, Joan loved gardening, reading, and traveling.  She recently moved to the Media area where she was a resident of White Horse Village and later Sterling Nursing home.

She is survived by her daughter, Vivian Williams (Ray) of Media, PA as well as her grandchildren Laura Williams Smith (Jeff) and Elyse Williams and her great-grandchildren Gabe, Alex, and Leif.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
