Jane A. Bachensky passed away on Nov. 7, eight days before her 99 th birthday, at the home of her daughter, Susan Dawn Lovejoy, Thornton, PA.
She was a proud World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and was stationed at Cherry Point, NC.
A native of Gettysburg, PA she was a star basketball player at Arendtsville High School, Adams County, and received a basketball scholarship from Harrisburg Business College. Prior to joining the Marine Corps, she worked in Washington, DC. Mrs. Bachensky was a resident of White Horse Village, Gradyville, for 26 years. Previously, she resided in Haverford Township for 39 years.
An active member of Temple Lutheran Church, Havertown, for 65 years, Jane was integral in planning and implementing the Holiday Bazaar for many years. After raising her family she worked as a legal secretary. Her interests included traveling, reading, gardening, sewing and crafting. At White Horse Village she could frequently be found working on the community jig saw puzzle.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Bachensky. In addition to her daughter Susan Dawn Lovejoy (William), she is survived by three other daughters, Mary Frances Scully (John) of Cary, NC, Janice Chilcutt (Ron Adderly) of Lake Worth, FL, Lois Brady (Michael) of Free Union, VA. She will be missed by six grandchildren: Allison Lovejoy (Adam Cope), Geoffrey Lovejoy (Danielle), Matthew Lovejoy (Mary Ellen), Natali Chilcutt Shultz (Justin), and Madison and Kelsey Brady. Jane also leaves behind seven great grandchildren: Alisia Lovejoy, Freyja Lovejoy, Saxon Lovejoy, Fiona Lovejoy, Owen Lovejoy, Paige Shultz and Harper Shultz.
Services will be on Tuesday, November 24th. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM at Rigby Harting and Hagan Funeral Home, 15 E. Fourth St., Media, PA, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jane to the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum, PO Box 73, Media, PA 19063.
