Obituary

James A. Battista Jr., age 68, a longtime Media resident, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on August 18, 2022.  Born in Philadelphia to Adele (née Buerhle) and the late James A. Battista Sr., Jim graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1972.  He owned and operated Shadeland Construction for nearly 50 years.

Jim enjoyed boating, traveling and fine dining.  He was a fan of the Phillies.  Time spent with family, especially grandchildren, was what Jim valued most.  He never tired of helping others and he had a passion for all things Christmas.  He was an integral part of the annual Lucia Fest at Gloria Dei (Old Swedes') Church.

Jim will be deeply missed by his companion of 16 years, Barbara Martin; children Elizabeth Keane (Jim) of Havertown, Jim Battista (Colleen), and David Battista (Ashley) of Media; and five grandchildren James, Damian, Ella, Elyse & Anna. He is also survived by siblings Christine Battista, Linda Hartman (Rick), Michele Horowitz (Barry) and Joan Battista along with his goddaughter, Kayla Battista, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 6-8:00 pm on Thursday evening, August 25th, at the Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home (15 E. Fourth St. Media, PA 19063).

There will be a second visitation Friday morning, August 26 th , at Gloria Dei (Old Swedes') Church from 9:30 – 10:30 am.  Jim's funeral service at Gloria Dei Church (916 S. Swanson Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147) will begin at 10:30 am.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter ( webpa.alsa.org ) or Team Gleason ( teamgleason.org ).
