Obituary

Irving W. "Bud" Simmons, age 95, a longtime resident of Longmeadow, MA and more recently of West Chester and Glen Mills, died peacefully at his home on September 21, 2019.  Irving was born in Union City, NJ to the late Mary (nee Burger) and George Simmons.  He spent his childhood in Maplewood, NJ where he attended Clinton Grammar School, S. Orange Jr. High, and Columbia High School before obtaining his Bachelor's in Business Management from Seton Hall University. Irving served in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator and B-24 gunner.

After his studies, Irving began working with Hercules Powder Co. and later began a long and successful career with Amoco Chemical Corp where he worked as a regional sales manager and achieved many sales awards over his thirty years with the company. Always eager to further his professional skills, he completed the Dale Carnegie Course in Effective Speaking. Irving served as president of the Society of Plastics Engineers, Western New England Chapter and, upon retirement, Irving continued to work as a plastics consultant.

Irving was a parishioner and lector at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church.  He enjoyed running and found peace in nature whether it was watching sunsets, bird watching or time spent near water.

Irving is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Cecile M. Simmons (nee Mooney), and his children: Mimi Limbach (George) of Drexel Hill, Peter Simmons (Melanie) of Hampden, MA, Suzanne Murphy (Skip) of Havertown, PA, Karen Leinhauser (Dan) of Narberth, PA, and Judy DePlato (Claude) of Havertown, PA.  He is also survived by 26 loving grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and cousin, Patricia Verycken.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday September 28th at 11 a.m. at Nativity B.M.V. Church  30 E. Franklin St. Media, PA. There will be a viewing for friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the Mass in Nativity BVM Church.  There are no additional viewing times scheduled.
