Obituary

George H. Weaver, Jr., a resident of Kennett Square, died peacefully at home on August 28, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 72.

Born to the late George and Rose (nee Wild) Weaver, George spent his childhood years in Media, PA.  He graduated from Media High School before attending Ohio University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.  George obtained his Master of Science from the University of Connecticut.  He earned a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Delaware in Historic Preservation.  George enjoyed a successful career as a self-employed structural engineer and he worked with Weston Solutions on a part-time basis.

George was passionate about architecture, engineering, and history.  He took a keen interest in the historic properties in Kennett Square and neighboring West Chester.  Until recently, he was a board member of HARB (Historical & Architectural Review Board) for the borough of West Chester.

In his spare time, George enjoyed photography.  He was a great lover of the arts and was especially supportive of local artists and artisans. He was a champion of equality and will be remembered fondly for his wit and charming sense of humor.

His daughter, Alexa, has many fond memories of her Dad cheering her on from the sidelines of every soccer and rugby game.

George was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Widman. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Bogen; his daughter, Alexa Weaver of Kennett Square; and his step-daughters Lauren Bogen of Philadelphia, Layah Bogen of Philadelphia, and Danielle Bogen of Kemah, TX.

He touched the lives of many with his unique and loving personality. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
