Dorothy Burtnick (nee Swadis) “Dot”, age 77, passed away peacefully at Lankenau Hospital on June 7, 2026 with her family by her side.

Dorothy was born in Philadelphia on September 1, 1948 to the late Kathleen (nee Quinn) and Peter Swadis. She attended Corpus Christi School and graduated from J.W. Hallahan Catholic High School with the class of 1966.

After high school she began her career in early education. She worked for many years as a teacher and administrator.

Dorothy was the beloved mother of Michael Burtnick and Lauren (nee Burtnick) Dougherty. She was a consistent support system for her children throughout their entire lives. Dot considered herself blessed to welcome her daughter-in-law, Andrea, and her son-in-law, Michael, to her family, and becoming a grandmother to Max and Bizzy was the highlight of her life. She was also extremely close with her great-niece and nephew, Micheala and Liam. She cherished so many fun and happy memories with her devoted family.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents and one of her best friends, Betty McAdams.

She is survived by her son, Michael Burtnick (Andrea) of Wallingford, PA, and her daughter, Lauren Dougherty (Michael) of Secane, PA; her grandchildren Maxwell and Elizabeth Burtnick; and her sister, Kathleen Murtha of Philadelphia, her niece Suzanne Murtha, and her nephew Kevin Murtha as well as her great-niece and nephew, Micheala and Liam.

Dorothy’s funeral mass will be held on Saturday, June 13th at St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. There will be a visitation in the church from 9-9:45. Mass will begin at 10 am.
