David
Franklin
Mar 28, 1936 — Apr 6, 2025
David Franklin, age 89, a resident of Upper Providence, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025. David was born in Rochester, NY, and spent his childhood in Ridgway, PA, before settling in and around the Philadelphia area.
He is survived by his loving wife Libby (nee Giallombardo); his children Lisa (Todd) Finnegan, David and Joanna; grandchildren Connor (Alyssa), Eva (Shane), Gavin and Kylie and by nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was a graduate of Villanova University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was a member of the Sharswood Law Club; Law Partner at Townsend Elliott & Munson, then Pepper, Hamilton, LLP; Founding Fellow of the American College of Bond Counsel; member of the Municipal Bond Club of Philadelphia; bar admitted to United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and The Orphans Court for the County of Philadelphia; and he co-authored public finance and related publications.
He served on the Navigation Commission for the Delaware River and its Navigable Tributaries, was a Member of the Moselem Springs Golf Club; and loved playing golf with friends, sailing, reading, working in his wood shop (being the recipient of a Certificate of Achievement in Advance Joinery Master Class from the J.D. Lohr School of Woodworking), a well-told anecdote, a good meal and especially a nice glass of wine.
He enjoyed gathering friends together for lunches or dinners without the need for a special occasion and was instrumental in forming The Friday Rabelaisian Society over 30 years ago, as an excuse to do so. In 2014 David was honored and very proud to be named President of "Shawnee" (a prestigious Municipal Bond Finance Group which originated more than 75 years ago) and it is believed that he never missed the opportunity to attend since his first year nearly 50 years ago.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 2400 N. Providence Rd. Media, PA, on Monday, April 14, 2025. Visitation from 10-11 am. Mass will begin at 11 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Conshohocken, PA.
