Obituary

Dr. Dan Millard Glenn  , 94, of , Wallingford, Pennsylvania, passed away surrounded by his family and devoted as always to the great love of his life,  Anna Louise "Peggy" Stahl  , his wife of seven decades. Dan often said that meeting Peggy at Mars Hill College was the most important moment of his life, and he cherished her steadfastly through every chapter that followed.

Born in Asheville, North Carolina, he was the son of  Harold M. and Christine H. Glenn  . Dan grew up under the steady guidance of his parents and the close influence of his grandparents, all of whom shaped his deep sense of character, discipline, and gratitude. He remained forever proud of his father, an esteemed Asheville Police Officer and a World War II veteran who served two years in the South Pacific.

Dan excelled in Asheville's public schools, serving as president of both his middle school and high school classes. A gifted student and natural leader, he was also a standout athlete—captain of the high school football team—and a talented musician who played drums in a dance band and the sousaphone in the school band.

Dan attended  Mars Hill College  , where two great loves took root:  Anna Louise "Peggy" Stahl  , the woman who would become his wife and lifelong partner, and the field of chemistry, inspired by the remarkable Professor Wood. At Mars Hill, Dan again captained the football team and earned  First Team Junior College All‑American  honors as a center.

He continued his education at  Davidson College  , where he chose chemistry over football after being told he could not do both. Dan graduated in 1953 with a B.S. in Chemistry and was a proud member of the  Sigma Chi Fraternity  .

Determined to pursue advanced study, Dan accepted a teaching fellowship at the  University of Tennessee  , where he taught chemistry, conducted research under Professor Buehler, and developed several medical products. He earned his  Master's degree in 1955  and his  Ph.D. in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in 1957.

In 1955, the most important event of Dan's life occurred—he married  Peggy Stahl  , who moved to Knoxville and taught school while Dan completed his graduate studies. She remained, in his own words, "the most important part of my life."

Dan began his professional career with  E.I. DuPont  in Philadelphia, launching a 37‑year journey through research, product development, and business management. He thrived in the chemical industry, developing profitable new products and contributing to major advancements within the company. After retiring, Dan returned to DuPont as a safety consultant, traveling throughout the United States and Europe. Peggy often joined him, and together they enjoyed the adventures that came with this second career.

He was a long time member of the Wallingford Presbyterian Church which was a key part of his spiritual life.

Of all his accomplishments, Dan was proudest of his family. He is survived by his beloved wife  Peggy  , and their three sons:

·  Mark  , his wife  Susan  , and their children  Lauren  and  Matthew  and Lauren's four sons—  Joseph, Benedict, Leo, and Felix  —who brought Dan great joy.

·  David  , a world traveler, author, and musician, who provided steadfast support to his parents in recent years.

·  Daniel  , the youngest, a talented software engineer whose frequent calls and visits meant the world to his father.

Dan often said his greatest hope was simply to spend many years loving his family. He considered himself blessed—with Peggy, with his sons, with his grandchildren.

Dan leaves behind a legacy of intellect, humor, devotion, and deep Southern pride. He liked to remind those around him to  "Give 'em hell, Tennessee or Go Big Orange."

He will be remembered with love, gratitude, and admiration by all who knew him.
