Jul 17, 1933 — Sep 13, 2025
Dale Eugene Owens
(July 17, 1933 - September 13, 2025)
The Rev. Dr. Dale E. Owens passed away peacefully and comfortably at Lankenau Hospital on September 13, 2025. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia A. Owens, in 2022. They resided in Springfield, PA, Delco. Dale was born to the late Robert and Mary (nee Wagner) Owens in Danville, PA. He started his formative years in Aristes, PA until the family moved to Upper Darby, PA when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1951 and graduated from Temple University in 1958. From there he went to Garret Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. He moved back to the Philadelphia area in 1962. Seven years later he lived in Langhorne, PA before settling in with his family in Springfield, PA in 1974. Dale was an ordained elder in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church from 1962 - 2000 and continued part-time until 2008, serving as both a pastor and administrator. In 1988, he was presented with an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Albright College.
Dale was a devoted and adored husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. He thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of his career as a pastor which included preaching, teaching, visiting the sick and elderly, counseling, and business administration (primarily finance and property). He touched the lives of many people and was known for his warmth, enthusiasm and radiant smile. Dale had an uncanny ability to remember the names of countless people until advanced years. Outside of his commitment to his family and church, Dale was a very loyal Philadelphia sports fan, a devotee of the Philadelphia Inquirer, a lifelong learner, a traveler, a theater, movie, and television enthusiast, and a talented carpenter.
Dale is survived by his children Lisa Chapman (John) of Wyndmoor, PA, Dale Owens, Jr. (Karen) of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Michelle Lynn Owens of Springfield, PA; 6 grandchildren - Casey Owens, Brianna Chapman, Jack Owens, Benjamin Chapman, Peter Owens and Zach Owens; sisters-in-law Patricia A. Owens of Springfield, PA, Sandy Munson of Medford Lakes, NJ, and Connie Knuppel of Sullivan, ME. Dale was also predeceased by his sister, Dawn Smith of Philadelphia, PA and his brother Larry Owens of Springfield, PA.
