Obituary

Clement J. Ciaramella
September 10, 1936 - May 3, 2024

Clement "Clem" J. Ciaramella, 87, of Springfield, PA, passed away on May 3, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at Riddle Hospital, following a brief but courageous battle with mesothelioma cancer.

Clem started a recollection by saying, "Did I ever tell you about……"

Clem was a self made man, born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia. After moving to Glenolden and attending GlenNor (Interboro) High School, he became a skilled barber under his father's tutelage. Clem married his childhood sweetheart Carrie and started a family. He served in the Navy Reserves during the Cuban Missile Crisis, 1962.

Eventually Clem joined the "new" men's hair stylist movement opening six shops throughout Delaware and Montgomery Counties. He was able to co exist with the long hair styles during the 60's and 70's. Clem was still cutting hair up until a few months ago. He had many loyal clients he considered friends and was cutting their children and grandchildren hair.

This handsome, guy with beautiful black hair pulling up in one of his collectable cars was quite a sight. His most recent car is a Cadillac XRL, but his real passion was "55" T-Bird.

Clem always felt he was lucky and he was. He was also very shrewd, enterprising, practical  and had the heart of an old time barterer. With all of those skills he built a mountain vacation home along with a place at the shore overlooking the ocean. The mountain house eventually got sold, but the shore place was his little piece of heaven. Sitting on the back patio, talking, eating, with Clem puttering around.

He was proud of what he accomplished, but he was more proud of his long-time marriage and family. Tradition and respect was a big thing for Clem. He wanted the best for his children and supported them in every way. He was thrilled when in one way or another they all followed in his "hairstyling" footsteps. His grandchildren, nieces and nephews brought him a lot of joy by wanting to be around him listening once again to one of his stories.

After losing his beloved wife Carrie he found solace with the St. Bernadette Bereavement Group in Drexel Hill. Being grateful he felt a need to give back and has volunteered for many years with the group.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carrie Ciaramella, parents Gene and Lena Ciaramella.   Survivors:  Children Joseph Ciaramella (Tammy), Suzanne Pavoni (Arthur),  Michael Ciaramella (Karen), Carol Anne Wharton (Kevin), grandchildren Matthew, Kristen, Michael, Nicole, and Sydney, companion Kathleen Loguidice, sister Janet Saunders (Joseph), brother-in-law Anthony Zuvich (Anna), seven great-grandchildren, eight nieces and nephews, ten great and great great nieces and nephews and many beloved cousins.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 9:30-11AM on Wednesday, May 8th at Nativity Of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 30 East Franklin Street, Media, PA 19063 with a mass to follow. Interment: St. Peter and Paul's, 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064 www.nativity-bvm.org
