Obituary

Clara Boughner (née Beam), age 91, a longtime resident Aston, PA, died peacefully on October 23, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of A. Lewis Boughner and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Clara was born in Philadelphia to the late Newton and Florence Beam. She spent her early childhood years in Philadelphia before moving to Media where she attended Media High School.  One of eight children, Clara was preceded in death by her brothers Newton, Arthur, Robert, Barry, and her sister, Florence Essaf.

Clara worked as a claims analyst and secretary for Eastern Building Material Dealers Association for over 25 years.  An integral member of First Baptist Church of Media, Clara served as Choir and Music director for over 50 years. She was also a Youth Leader, Nursery Director and Ladies Chorus Director for Women's Retreat. When her children were young, Clara volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother and also served as an Election Day Pole Clerk. She was proud to say that she and her husband visited all 50 states in the U.S.

Clara was a first-class cook who loved preparing meals for her family and friends no matter the size of the group, and she frequently provided meals for those in need.  She enjoyed crocheting and was a seamstress of children's clothes.

Clara is survived by her husband of 67 years, Lew Boughner; 3 children Abraham Lewis "Guy" Boughner of Media, Judith Ann Kurrus of Sugarland, TX, and B. Gail Wray of Aston; 7 grandchildren Cassie Sebastiani, Lindsay Mason, Edward Boughner, David Wray, Jr., Patricia Steinmetz, Amy Kurrus and Anna Kurrus; and 12 wonderful great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Donald Beam of Villages, FL and Albert Beam of Indian Lake Estates, FL, and her nephew Michael (Carol) Boughner.
